Information And Rules For Juniors

The junior section of Witham Running Club is for anyone between 8-18 years of age who would like to run, we train on Saturday mornings from 0900-1000.

During the winter we train at the Great Notley Discovery Centre. We specifically train for the North Essex (53-12 sponsored) Junior Cross Country Events in which any club runner from the age of 8-17 can participate.

During the summer we train at Rickstones Academy, Conrad Road, Witham. We use the track to develop juniors in both speed and endurance running, focusing on fun and enjoyment. We encourage the juniors to take part in fun runs which are run alongside the big road races in Essex like: Brentwood, Great Baddow, Hatfield Broad Oak, Silver End and the Race for Life for the girls.

Older juniors may run with the club's adults on Monday nights and in the 5k races however, due to the safeguarding and protecting of children, coaches and the club, all parents/guardians of juniors must ensure the following rules for juniors are applied:-

Monday nights training: all juniors MUST be 14 years old or over and accompanied by their parent/guardian, on the run.  If you are  unable to keep up with your child, please speak to one of the coaches for advice. A club coach or a CRB checked person from the Club may accompany a junior.

5K races: all Junior’s under the age of 14 MUST be accompanied when running the on roads by a parent/guardian, a club coach or a CRB checked person from the Club. The person accompanying the junior can be on foot or on a push bike, however the person accompanying the child must remain behind the junior and within 10 Mtrs. Juniors do not require accompanying when running on the track.

For Monday nights training and for 5K races: all Juniors MUST attend the specific training session on a Saturday before running in any of the above sessions. When running in bad light all juniors MUST wear a reflective bib. Any club coach or committee member can stop a junior at any time for any reason.

Membership: Before a junior can train with the club a parent/guardian of the junior MUST complete a consent form which provides the club with contact and medical details.
Junior membership for a year is £1 with no weekly charge.

All our Coaches are CRB checked. We have both male and female coaches and a first-aid trained coach. The focus for junior training is on warm-up, technique, endurance, strength, stretching and enjoyment. We recognise that juniors play a key role in the ongoing development of our club and aim to develop all levels.
